In what would appear to be fairly obvious news to anyone involved with Hellgate, the IAH servers for the game (that’s the South East Asian ones) have finally been taken down. Here is a statement from the site.

Suspension of Hellgate: London’s Multiplayer Service
15/10/2008
Dear Gamers,

The online PC game Hellgate: London, IAHGames will suspend online multiplayer service for the game’s Alliance Server as of1200hrs (GMT+8) on 21st October 2008. The suspension of service will allow IAHGames, Flagship Studios, and other involved parties to reassess the situation before moving forward.

Be assured that IAHGames has weighed several options and opinions into this situation, and at the encouragement of virtually all involved, from the management to many current players, we feel it is the correct course of action.

All character, account, and item data will be safely retained on our servers until such a time when the multiplayer service status has changed. As such, all the heart and soul you have poured into your characters and Hellgate: London’s online world will not be erased.

Online support of Hellgate: London’s single player mode will continue. The latest v1.2 patch from Flagship Studios can be manually applied here.

The official Hellgate: London Alliance Forum will also be closed. Future updates to multiplayer and single player service will be released via our official site and direct emails.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted :)

SingTel recently had their Red Portal Hellgate London event at one of their stores. People got to come down, play Hellgate London, get prizes and just have a great day out!

PlayHGL has posted up their report on the event and has provided a large selection of pictures from the event, which included a lot of Cosplay characters, including an awesome templar.

At the event, visitors could take part in a quest event that when completed, will enable them to walk away with another exclusive dye kit code. There was also a first to level up to level 5 contest and a cosplay contest were also held where winners would walk away with various prizes ranging from a Chimei LCD monitor, Microsoft gaming peripherals.

There is a lot more pictures available at their gallery.

Enjoy :)

IAH, the SEA (South East Asia) publisher for Hellgate London posted up an interview that their members got to conduct with Phil Shenk, who is the Art Director of Flagship Studios.

There is questions about items, level variations and the map designs. Here is a snippet, head to our forum to read the rest of the questions which provide some interesting information on what’s to come in future patches.

5) Are there any plans for set items and if so, would they unique designs/models/textures to them or would they just be rehashed normal items?

Yes, set items are on the list. They are something we always wanted to do, and we just ran out of time. Expect to see them in one of the next Chronicle updates.

We’re talking right now about what we can do to make them look different and special. Ideally, we’d make new models for everything, but that takes a lot of time. Haha, ALL the art in Hellgate takes a lot of time because we shot for the “next gen” normal-mapped look. Sometimes I wish we had gone the “hand-painted” look and then we could make more stuff!

But anyway, for set items, we’d have to make something for each gender of each faction at least… and ideally for each class. That’s a lot of stuff! And we don’t want people to have to wait too long to see them.

So, we might mix it up. We can do fancier, special textures for them, or at least color sets. Maybe a few pieces will have special models. We’ll do what we can. :) Is having unique models super important to you? Even if it meant waiting longer to see them?

Enjoy :)

The South East Asian Hellgate London publisher IAH has posted up an E-Card on their website that you can send to your friends to wish them all the best for these festive hollidays!

Saying that people were looking towards this announcement would be an understatement. Finally, the 0.6 single player patch has been released ! Lots of fixes inside :-)

And to introduce the new patch, an updated version of the Hellgate: London launcher has been released. Just click on the “Updates available” button and this all-new launcher will install itself. Here is what it looks like (main menu, patch menu, patch menu while downloading SP 0.6):

Just in time for Patch 1.0, with its 300MB which would have been quite a hassle to download through the previous system !

Au revoir ;-)

For those players from South East Asia, IAH (The SEA Publisher for HGL) has just published a press release that states that the servers will not be wiped. There is also a message from Bill Roper and Roland Ong, the IAHGames CEO.

Dear Gamers,

We are elated to announce Flagship Studios has given us a green light to implement Patch 0 with NO character wipe.

Flagship Studios has investigated the major character issues, including missing skills and statistics, and have found methods to resolve them. They will also be performing a server upgrade to Patch 0.1 for our game service, making it equivalent to what the US gamers are enjoying now.

The process of implementing these improvements should be complete by 22nd November, 2007.

We are also working closely with Hanbitsoft and Flagship Studios on a program to reward our gamers for the patience and perseverance shown during the recent turn of events. Please stay updated to the forum and website for more news from your community manager, Angelace.

Thank you for your attention and have a good day ahead.

Sincerely,

Team HGL

Enjoy :)

Kotaku reports that the version of South East Asian version of Hellgate: London will be getting wiped, as after numerous attempts to apply Patch 0 to the servers it was discovered that the only way to apply it would be to perform a complete character wipe.

IAHGames has issued a statement apologizing to its players, and compensating them with 4 weeks of free subscription benefits. Here’s a snippet:

The implementation of Patch0 and subsequent character wipe will occur at 1200hrs(GMT+8) on Monday, November 12. After the Patch is implemented, a comprehensive test will be run to ensure there are no further problems. The process will take about 8 hours.
We would like to repeat we are sorry for the delay and the frustration it may have caused you. Please accept the game time as compensation, and thank you for your support until this point.

It’s unfortunate that the wipe has to happen, but it’s good to know that Hellgaters will be receiving a fair compensation for their loss. Endure, in enduring grow strong.

Update: The wipe and subsequent implementation of Patch0 have been postponed.

Dear Gamers,

We have decided to postpone today’s maintenance exercise.

Another announcement would be presented tomorrow to inform all our valued gamers further on the implementation of Patch-0.

We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you and we wish you a good day ahead.
